WINSTON TITE SCULPTURE

COMMISSIONED SCULPTURES

Line Play/Space Traverse

North County Regional Library, Huntersville, North Carolina

Line Play/Space Traverse is a very large suspended steel sculpture comprised of four segments.  It is conceptually about exploration and investigation, whether it be through actual travel or experiences or through books or other resources; it is most literally about a playful line traveling or rather traversing the library’s large and open interior space, deflecting off windows and walls while exploring the library’s architectural elements, including encircling the ceiling fan on its journey. The work was commissioned by the Charlotte/Mecklenburg Public Arts Commission and ASC Public Art, Inc. and funded through the 1/2% for Artwork in Public Buildings Program for Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. The sculpture was deaccessioned, removed and discarded in 2018 to allow for remodeling of the library interior, remodeling that eliminated significant space that the sculpture occupied. Being site-specific prevented the sculpture from being sited elsewhere or reinstalled in the reconfigured interior space.
